Woolgoolga Art School

Our History

Founded in 2023 by local artist & author Jess Portsmouth, Woolgoolga Art School has built a reputation on being an inclusive art space to foster creative potential for all ages and abilities.

Our Facilities

We have partnered with Woolgolga Gallery to provide a safe studio and workshop space for adults and children. This also gives us the exclusive opportunity to have an exhibition space for showcasing student work.

Our Philosophy

At Woolgoolga Art School, we believe that art is an essential part of the human experience, and that everyone has the potential to be creative in their own unique way.

Our Mission

At Woolgoolga Art School, we strive to foster creativity in our students while also giving them the technical skills they need to excel in their chosen art form. Our experienced teacher is passionate about helping students achieve their artistic goals. From beginners to advanced artists, we have classes and workshops that cater to all skill levels.

About Our Teacher

Jess Portsmouth

Jess is a professional artist, face painter and published author. She has exhibited and sold her works both locally and internationally.

She studied a Bachelor of Fine Art at Monash university, a Bachelor of Laws at Bond university and has a Diploma of Visual Arts from Tafe NSW.

She has been working with children and teaching the arts for over 5 years.

As a mental health advocate, Jess is passionate about the therapeutic benefits of art making.

She has a certificate in Art Therapy and her approach to teaching is a mixture of technical tuition, encouraging creative experimentation and building confidence through artistic exploration.

Her classes focus on establishing the foundations of art theory and then applying that knowledge to artworks.

In her personal arts practise she primarily works with acrylic paints, graphite, charcoal & pastels, depicting the human form.
